Local Eateries

 

Evening meals can be obtained at the Guest House and locally in John o' Groats.

If you are travelling to John o' Groats and expect to arrive after 8pm, we recommend that you have your evening meal en-route in either Wick or Thurso, as late dinners are not available locally.

Café Groats is located at the harbour, 1 mile (1.5km) from the Guest House, and offers a selection quick bites, snacks, drinks and meals for sit in and takeaway. The large glass windows offer fantastic views over the Groats harbour and onto Orkney.

 

Offering local produce. Hopefully you can snap up one of the lobster dishes caught off the coastline by a John o'Groats fisherman.

 

Closes at 6pm. Should you be looking to order a meal we'd advise a latest seating of 5pm.

The first and last pub.

A visit is a must to this iconic building where you can taste the locally brewed beers. Have a walk around the visitor centre before heading to the rear of the building to find the quaint pub tucked away with a selection of beers on tap.

The perfect pit stop to quench your thirst, where on a sunny day you can sit outside and enjoy a pint on the coastline or should you need to shelter from the weather warm up in the pub beside the fire.

The Cabin @ John o' Groats is located at the harbour, 1 mile (1.5km) from the Guest House, and offers a selection of take-away meals.

 

The perfect spot to grab a takeaway bite to eat before or after enjoying one of the Wildlife Cruises or returning from the Orkney Day Tour.

 

Last orders for food is usually 6.30pm.

Whisky from the edge at Scotland's most northerly mainland whisky distillery.

Enjoy a coffee and cake in their lovely Whisky Lounge, and of course, you must try and sample of their whiskies, liqueur and cocktails.

Enjoy the full 8 Doors experience by booking onto their tour to see behind the scenes, hear about their journey and sample a selection of their whisky in their tasting room as you look out across the Groats coastline.

A mother and daughter run deli and bakery with a lovely shop full of gifts and goodies focusing on ethically sourced products.

All their sweet and savoury products are baked daily at the Deli which can be enjoyed with a hot or cold drink in their indoor seating area or hidden garden.

Located a short distance from John o'Groats (10 minute drive from the Guest House) is a must visit with their accolades speaking for themself.

Sweet and savoury bakes, gifts, meals and drink available with indoor and outdoor seating.

You may have the pleasure of meeting their two cats George I and George II, they are so well behaved but that doesn't mean they won't suck you in to offering them a little treat.

The Seaview Hotel is situated just over half a mile (1km) from the Guest House and offers a full range of meals from bar snacks to restaurant meals.

 

Reservations are not normally required but advised during busy periods.
